Bold + Bright

// Michael Stars top / Gap snake print pants / Colonial Madness boots / old belt / Dimoni bag / Urban Outfitters watch / Target dagger necklace //

Finally feeling normal after fighting off a two week cold that left me with the most annoying never-ending cough. Then you realize that it's the little things that make you grateful like being able to talk without having the impulse to hack up your lungs.

Other things that make me happy are bright pieces like this top, which is one of my favorite go-to items when I'm feeling a burst of color. You may remember it from here. You will almost never find me wearing several bright pieces together. In this case, I just let the color do the talking while the darker tones act as an accent.

Let's Go Sailing, Mr. Fox

// Stephanie B striped top { similar here } / Joe's Jeans black skinnies / By Paige Fox loafers / Zara leather messenger / Target anchor necklace { another cute one } //

Can one be guilty of buying too many stripes? If so, then I've been caught red-handed. If you've seen my Instagram lately, you would have noticed that I added two more stri-ped items to my stash. Sigh. In my defense, the top above is several years old. You see, stripes never die out.

I know it's been awhile, but I finally brought Mr. Fox out to play. I'm not really into flats, but loafers have become the exception especially when they're adorned with cute hand-stitched animals.

What a Lovely Space You Have There

If you ever find yourself in Houston or if you live here now, I would highly encourage a visit to a little shop called Space. At one time, this spot used to house Knitta founder, Magda Sayeg's, old boutique, Raye, which inspired my love for independent fashion designers. In the same vein, it feels like Space picked up where Raye left off by showcasing the work of independent and local artists, designers, and craftsmen. Local designer, Lacy Williams, who just came out with her first collection of über wearable and fun summer dresses had one of her dresses prominently displayed in the front window while an entire wall was dedicated to an extensive collection of Tim Doyle prints.

If you have little ones or have friends who do, don't overlook the back room where you'll find cute kid apparel and unique stuffed toys. The husband and wife duo who own Space have deemed their toddler son the "general manager" of the store, so you can be sure the inventory is kid-approved. Space is no ordinary gift shop but a gallery of curiosities with every nook and cranny filled with something wondrous. Experience it for yourself.

The Perfect Jean Jacket

// vintage Gap kids jean jacket {similar here} / Alternative Earth tank / Rag and Bone knit tunic / Gap snake print skinny pants / Whyred wedge boots / Alex & Chloe "oui" necklace on sale here //

Shrunken fit, that not too dark/not too light medium hue, and cropped sleeves. These are what I love about my favorite denim jacket. I can add it to any outfit and somehow, it just works. I'm currently in the process of whittling away the excess in my closet and rolling rack and narrowing my wardrobe to more classic pieces, including this jacket. I find it easy to get rid of the trendier pieces as I know their expiration date looms near.

Anybody else out there have a trusty denim jacket or other wardrobe staple they can't live without?

The Irony of Art

After watching the movie, (Untitled), I was inspired to track down the amazing floating cable necklace worn by Marley Shelton, who plays a parody of an art gallery owner. I figured if anyone would have it, it would be the MoMA store.

Although I didn't quite find the exact necklace, MoMA did have something similar.

Of course, I couldn't just stop there. Here are some other items that caught my eye:
// 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 //

Their online shop seems to have a little something for everyone even items from Japanese minimalist retailer, Muji. If you're curious to see what brought about my sudden bout of inspiration, you should check out (Untitled), which is available on Netflix Streaming. I was chuckling throughout the entire movie, and it's great for fans of Adam Goldberg.

This year I arrived earlier to the music fest to catch my favorite bands which meant I had to endure the intense heat even longer. Despite two days of sweating in a hundred degree weather, I had a great time and bumped into a ton of old friends. As the sun went down, the festival quickly turned into a flashback from the '90s. The last memory of the night is me sipping on my Lime-a-Rita and dancing to some nostalgia that is Primus.

Here's a revisit to FPSF 2 years ago.
