More Maje

If you haven't stopped by the Maje store yet, I highly encourage a visit! While in NY, I stopped by 2 locations and got a taste of the French aesthetic that's more streamlined and edgier than what I'm used to with Marant. I saw a lot of bright cobalts, metallics, and beautifully structured silhouettes and was particularly impressed with the quality and construction of the clothing, which I felt could stand the test of time. The pieces that stood out to me the most were the jackets and coats with their twist on the classics. At the second store, I even had my first (and only) blogger sighting when I walked out of my dressing room and saw Leandra Medine browsing the selection. After admiring and trying on several of the pieces, I ended up walking out with a boxy babydoll dress with a leather Peter Pan collar and pockets. Very Alexa Chungesque.

I wouldn't be surprised if she had a creative hand in the design process, since she is the newest face of their F/W campaign!

Weekend Getaway

One of my favorite drives besides cruisin' the coast of Cali is zigzagging through Texas hill country. This past weekend Bryan and I drove to Austin to see The Walkmen perform and continued west to meet up with friends in the charming German town of Fredericksburg. While there, we stayed at our favorite Bed & Breakfast, hiked up Enchanted Rock, watched the bats come out and play, and made a day out of exploring the local wineries. If you ever find yourself in or around Austin, an extra trip down Highway 290 is a must to see the beauty that Texas has to offer and for the wine lovers, wineries line both sides of the highway and offer $10 tastings all day long. Becker Vineyards and Grape Creek are my favorite!

Closet Peep: VintageVirgin

A Closet Peep (formerly Out-of-the-Closet) has been a long time coming, and what better way to make up for lost time than to feature one of my favorite bloggers, VintageVirgin. Southern girl at heart with a big city state-of-mind, this thrift-a-holic is busy juggling mommy duties with running a successful blog and still manages to look utterly fabulous. Never one to follow the pack, Jessica seamlessly mixes and matches prints and knows how to incorporate modern pieces while staying true to her vintage roots.

Evil Twin top, Beginning Boutique skirt, Zara heels
Tuco tee, vintage shortalls, See by Chloe wedge sneakers
Romwe maxi dress, Jeffrey Campbell "Suspect" wedges, vintage macrame bag

The Short & Sweet:
1. List 3 words that describe you.
 Mommy, humble, vintage

2. If you could be teleported to any country in the world, where would it be and why?
Anywhere in the UK, I feel like I can really be myself there and just embrace all the different types of cultures.

3. What's your favorite thing to cook for your son?
He loves everything I cook but it's just something about fried fish, mashed potatoes and green beans that makes him happy.

4. If you were someone/something in your past life, who/what would it be?
Twiggy could you imagine having all of her clothes now, DIE! Same for Diana Ross.

5. What is your dream job? To write for several major fashion magazines, writing is my second love after vintage of course.

Thanks Jess for letting us peep your home and wardrobe!

The Skort

// secondhand chambray top / Free People skort / Zara bag / Isabel Marant Dicker boots / vintage brass cuff //

I haven't worn a skort since middle school, but seriously, I think it just might be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Sure, you won't get as nice of a breeze as a skirt, but at least you don't ever have to worry about flashing people. I remember seeing a different color scheme on the Free People website where they called it "culottes," but these are some pretty darn well-disguised pair of shorts if I ever did see one.

Dazed and Excused: NYFW S/S 2013

I'm back, and there's not much I can say that isn't summed up in the following photographs. New York Fashion Week was just as I had hoped it would be and more. Although I wasn't quite expecting the heat upon my arrival (last year's photos really threw me off), the weather quickly cooled down after a sudden tornado blew through. This trip gave me the chance to see my love of fashion and photography come to life in a New York minute thanks to my friend, Jay, and my new friend, Dennis.

And of course, good ole New York

What I Learned at Fashion Week:
  • No matter how fabulous everyone else looks running around in 5-inch heels, wear your comfy shoes.
  • Models are genetic mutants or robots. Where do they find all these incredibly tall, beautiful, and skinny people?
  • Do not try to steal Getty's space in the press area. You will not succeed.
  • Oh, and don't blink, because you might miss a celebrity sighting.
